Frontiers in Bioscience" is a non-profit organization created by scientists for scientists for fostering international scientific communication and for providing scientists, physicians and patients with a diverse array of information, tools and techniques. Frontiers in Bioscience provides a platform where exchange of scientific information can take place freely among investigators, scientists, physicians and patients. Frontiers in Bioscience journal publishes manuscripts, books, lectures, databases and other useful information. Frontiers in Bioscience virtual library encompasses the most useful features of the web.
Frontiers in Bioscience" has its own domain name (bioscience.org). Always use the following url [http://www.bioscience.org] to access Frontiers in Bioscience, USA. Frontiers in Bioscience has several mirror sites. Please consult the homepage for the list of current mirror sites.
Each page of the journal contains links to the Journal, Virtual library and to an index that allows viewing the content of the journal. Furthermore, the menu bar allows a frame to be loaded that contains accessing various sites of the Frontiers in Bioscience.
ABOUT FRONTIERS IN BIOSCIENCE, JOURNAL -
One of the primary mission of "Frontiers in Bioscience" is to foster rapid dissemination of peer reviewed scientific data and to deliver the most up-to-date reviews in biology and medicine to biologists and physicians. The journal also publishes original articles, books, lectures, databases, news on demand, bulletin board, chat room, E-mail alerts and other services that are updated periodically.
The scope of the journal and the basis for the establishment of "Frontiers in Bioscience" can be found in the "General Information" section of the journal. This section also contains information as to how to subscribe to the journal.
A comprehensive "Guidelines to Authors" describes the types of the manuscripts that are accepted for publication, the review process, and a detailed guideline on how to submit a manuscript to "Frontiers in Bioscience". The manuscripts sent to the editorial office should be formatted according to the formatting instruction.
The current issue of the journal contains published manuscripts. Manuscripts published in the "Frontiers in Bioscience" are cited by Index Medicus, MEDLINE, Chemical Abstracts, BIOSIS, Current Contents for Life Sciences, Research alerts and current Web Contents . All manuscripts, submitted to "Frontiers in Bioscience" are peer reviewed. Only the manuscripts that are high quality and obtain a score of 75 or higher will be accepted for publication. Publication categories: Manuscripts are published in one of the following categories: Research articles in basic or clinical science, Reviews in basic or clinical science, Technical notes and protocols, Multimedia medicine and Databases or Atlases. The manuscripts are reviewed quickly after they have been received, normally within three weeks from the date of submission. Once accepted, the authors quickly receive a galley proof for correction. The manuscript appear shortly after the corrected proof has been received. There is no fixed date for publication, rather manuscripts go on line as they get accepted for publication.

ABOUT FRONTIERS IN BIOSCIENCE, VIRTUAL LIBRARY -
Virtual library links are a list of urls and forms of interest to physicians, biologists and patients. The forms that are provided in separate directories for searching various search engines are not created solely to help the busy scientists to conveniently and efficiently find the information that they are looking for. The first time users are encouraged to visit the original site to become familiar with the terms and conditions of the use of such engines. For some sites, registration is required. Please send your comments and the urls of the site(s) that you wish to appear in this platform to the editorial office by mail or via E-mail.
REQUIREMENTS -
The minimum system requirements for browsing the journal and the virtual library are as follows:
Computer: A 486 or Pentium PC, with Windows 3.11 or preferably higher. Apple/Macintosh PC with System 6.0 or greater
Hardware: 8Mb or more RAM, video card with 1-2 megabytes of VRAM, video accelerator, video camera, sound card, CD-ROM drive
Monitor resolution: We recommend a monitor resolution of 1024x768 or preferably higher.
Software: All image files are viewable by softwares which do not require video cards to be installed. AVI, MOV, QT, and MPG movie files can be viewed by software programs and there is no need for a video card. Movie files with sound require a sound card. WAV, and AU sound files can be played by software through the PC speaker. The quality of sound will be dependent upon the speaker. Most internet software applications require an active internet connection in order to run. To some extent, local HTML files are browsable without an internet connection by word processing softwares. Internet connection: PPP internet connection (minimum 28.8kbps), and appropriate softwares.
Browser: You can view the "Frontiers in Bioscience" using different types of browsers. However, we recommend the most recent version of Netscape or Internet Explorer. Your browser should have the capability of showing graphics and handling frames. Considering that images, video and sound clips are an integral part of certain databases and documents, a graphical browser is highly recommended. As the browsers develop more features, we keep adding these new features to the journal. Therefore, we highly recommend that you periodically upgrade your browser. Unless you upgrade your browser, you will not be able to take advantage of new features. In addition, old browsers may not display the new pages of the journal properly. If you experience problems and have an older browser, please consider updating your browser. Maxthon which was known as MyIE2 is a full featured browser with many security features and unique attributes not found in other browsers. FBS supports the use of this browser.

NAVIGATION -
You may add a menu bar to the top of the page to facilitate browsing and to obtain a richer experience. You can remove the bar at any time by clicking "Remove menu bar".
Navigation through the navigation frame provided on the top of the page allows the user to first select the desired page and then load it into the viewable screen. Clicking on the "Journal" Name to the left of the frame and the "Journal Module" will be loaded into top frame. Clicking on the item "Index" in the top frame will restore the original module in the lower frame. Clicking on any of the other items in the top frame will provide a submenu in the lower frame. Clicking on any items of the submenu, will load the proper page into the viewable screen. The "Library" Name to the left of the frame may also be used in a similar manner. Clicking on the "Index" Name to the right of the top frame will restore the original module into the top frame. Clicking on any of the item in this menu will directly load the page into the viewable screen.
For browsers with the capability to show frames and interepret Javascript, buttons are included in the current issue that allows an index of the entire journal and virtual library to be displayed in the left (as a frame) or as a floating index (with the use of Javascript).
