DIGITAL CASH Internet is loaded with information. Most information presented on the Internet has been free thus far. Providing people with information takes time and effort. Except for getting recognition, the providers have not yet been able to get financially rewarded for their work. But, that may all be changing soon. Two companies, CyberCash (http://www.cybercash.com) and Digi-Cash (http://wwwdigicash.com) are now offering the opportunity to the providers to charge for their products and services on the Internet. The softwares that these companies have produced, would allow the consumers to transfer funds from their banks or credit cards into digital cash that is stored on their C drive and then use these funds to purchase products or download a software. There are other companies that their attempts is focused to make transactions possible on the Internet. Carnegie Mellon is developing an electronic form of money that is called NetBill. Digital Equipment Corporation is now developing a technology for producing digital check, which is called Millicent. Transactions will not be possible unless the consumers feel that the transactions can safely take place on the Internet. In 1997, the Netscape, Microsoft, vendors and credit card companies will make agreement that will support the Secure Electronic Transactions Nonproprietary Protocol of the future. |
